Sky-high landmark for Chennai

Chennai’s first musical supertree tower is set to open at Kalaignar Centenary Park in the coming weeks. Rising 30 metres high, the eight-storey structure promises to become a new urban icon and a prime spot for sunrise and sunset views.

Light, sound & city lights

The illuminated branches will host a light-and-sound show, turning the tower into a nighttime spectacle. With sweeping views of the city skyline and coastline, officials describe it as a visual treat and a major attraction for residents and tourists.

3/7

Modern access, vertical design

Equipped with two lifts and staircase access with landing spaces, the eight-storey tower is designed for smooth visitor movement. The structure integrates steel framing with live plants wrapping its stem for a striking vertical garden effect.

4/7

Café with a view on seventh floor

The seventh floor will house a café overlooking the skyline. While the tower will be inaugurated soon, officials said the café launch will follow later, with operational details still being finalised.

5/7

Glass gallery & open terrace views

Visitors can access two viewing decks — a glass-enclosed gallery and an open-air terrace. Together, they offer nearly 3,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor viewing space, designed to provide panoramic vistas of Chennai’s cityscape and sea line.

6/7

Inspired by Singapore, rooted in Dravidian ethos

Modelled on Singapore’s Supertree Grove, the foliage-clad structure blends concrete and steel with vertical greenery. Its 24-metre-wide radiating branches will glow at night, while designers say the tower reflects a distinct Dravidian architectural spirit.

7/7

Parking woes cast shadow

While the park draws nearly 500 visitors daily, residents warn of traffic chaos. With no dedicated parking or cab drop-off plan on Cathedral Road, concerns are mounting that congestion will worsen once the supertree opens to the public.
