CHENNAI: Alleging that Tamil Nadu has become a land of crime in the 44-month DMK rule, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday appealed to women to protect themselves by carrying self-defence spray and protective equipment like an emergency SOS alarm while stepping out. “Like you, I am saddened that such a situation has come to Tamil Nadu,” he said.
In a statement, the former chief minister said there would be no safety for anyone, especially women and girls, if the DMK govt remained in power.
“The people of Tamil Nadu lost faith that these rulers and the police will provide security. Condemn the chief minister, who holds the home portfolio, for remaining silent when the media reports such atrocities against women every day,” he said. He listed instances of alleged sexual assaults against women in Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Hosur and Villivakkam in Chennai.
He urged the state govt to take legal action against the perpetrators of crime.
