KRISHNAGIRI: Water resources department (WRD) officials sounded a flood warning to people living on the banks of the Thenpennai river after the water level in the K R P (Krishnagiri Reservoir Project) Dam crossed the maximum storage level of 50 feet on Thursday night.

Officials asked people living on the banks of the river and low-lying areas to move to safer places.
They said the inflow to the reservoir was 1,066 cusecs. "We are releasing the same 1,066 cusecs of water," an official said.
Krishnagiri district collector K M Sarayu sent a flood alert to neighbouring districts like Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai and Cuddalore.
Officials at the dam site told TOI that this was the second time in this month that the dam reached the maximum water storing level. "The water level crossed 50 feet on September 3 after which we had issued the flood alert to the downstream on the next day," said an official.
