India-Australia event on vessel search starts
CHENNAI: The Indian Coast Guard, eastern region, along with the Australian Border Force launched a five-day training course on 'Vessel Search Technique' on Monday.
Officers of the Indian Coast Guard, customs, Coastal Security Group of the Tamil Nadu police and senior intelligence officers of the directorate of revenue intelligence, Chennai, participated in the course conducted by a team from Australian Border Force.

The training, which will conclude on November 30, is part of the international cooperation between the two countries.
The course will see transfer of skills, knowledge and train officials to undertake a vessel search. The programme is aimed at bolstering the efforts of both the countries in realising common national maritime objectives of ensuring safety and security at sea while paving way to strengthening multi-dimensional maritime capabilities. At the inauguration, several top officials including inspector general S Paramesh, commander of Coast Guard (East) Susan Grace, and Australian consul general, Chennai, Tim Sheppard participated.
