India-China border tension: Tamil Nadu CM announces compensation, govt job to martyred Army man Palani’s family

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday paid homage to K Palani, an Army soldier from Tamil Nadu, who was martyred by the Chinese army in the Ladakh region. The government has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh to the family of the martyr and a job to a family member.
“I was shocked to know about the death of Palani, a native of Kadakalur village in Ramanathapuram district, by the Chinese army in Ladakh region.

My condolences to the family members,” tweeted Palaniswami.
“I have sanctioned Rs 20 lakh to the family and a government job for one family member. I have also instructed the Ramanathapuram district collector to go in person and pay homage to the soldier,” said Palaniswami in a statement.

Opposition party leaders condoled the death of Palani. “My salute to all three Indians who have laid their lives in Ladakh. Palani has been in the Army for the past 22 years, and I pay my homage and my condolences to the family members,” tweeted DMK president M K Stalin.
In a statement, TNCC chief K S Alagiri said, “It is shocking to know that Palani has been martyred and my condolences to his family members.
PMK founder S Ramadoss said it was shocking to know that three soldiers had laid their lives. “Palani’s contribution to the nation will be remembered always and I pay homage to him,” said Ramadoss.
MDMK chief Vaiko said Palani was to retire in one year’s time but had laid his life for the nation.
