Isaac also said that her father had issued death threats to him over the matter.
Isaac, a native of Kanyakumari who lives in MMDA Colony in Arumbakkam, said he had fallen in love with Shahlin Ambrose, then an engineering college student, four years ago. They had, he stated in the complaint, verbally committed to marrying each other.
However, in December 2008, he was summoned by Shahlin who told him that her parents, apparently aware of their love affair, had arranged for her to marry a wealthy man and that she had decided to obey them. She asked him to not call her again. Isaac then contacted her father Ambrose who reiterated Shahlin's ultimatum and told him to forget the girl. Isaac alleged that Ambrose threatened to beat him up and send his body back to his family in Kanyakumari if he continued to try to meet the girl.
Isaac, in the complaint, sought protection for his life from the girl's relatives and also asked the police to recover all the goods and cash he had given Shahlin as a token of love.' These included, he said, Rs 13,000 in cash, three silver anklets, 15 chudidhars, 4 pairs of slippers and the cost of recharging her cell phone for three years. He claimed that he deserved to get all this back since he had given them to a girl he believed would become his wife.
Suburban commissionerate officials registered the complaint and forwarded it to the ACP, Meenambakkam range.
