CHENNAI: No one will get a chance to enter Australia illegally by boat voyage and the country is also firm on its stand against illegal migrants, said Australian minister counsellor of home affairs Tara Cavanagh on Tuesday.
“Australia’s strong border protection policies are the same. These have not changed following the recent election. Australia’s strong stance on people smuggling remains firm,” said Cavanagh during the launch of ‘Zero Chance’ campaign at the Australian consulate here.
Since military-led Operation Sovereign Borders launched in 2013, Australia has returned 847 people from 35 people smuggling ventures to their respective countries.
“The country’s new campaign to save lives at sea and deter vulnerable people from falling prey to the people smugglers. It will continue to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of illegal boat voyage to Australia,” she said.
Acting counsel Michael Costa and officers from federal police and border force of Australia were present.
