Covid-19: One in three people exposed to coronavirus in Chennai, second sero survey finds

CHENNAI: One in three people in Chennai has been exposed to coronavirus, according to the seroprevalence survey done in the city in the second week of October. The survey analysis is still going on, said Dr Manoj V Murhekar, director and scientist G of National Institute of Epidemiology that conducted the

About 6,389 samples were collected, and 2,062 have tested positive so far for the IgG antibodies presence with an overall positivity of 32.3%. This means one in three people has been exposed to the virus.

Dr Manoj said that this doesn’t mean that Chennai can let the guard down. People should follow

Covid-19

protocols until the festive season ends to avoid new clusters.

In the last survey which was done in July, 12,405 samples were collected and 2,673 had tested positive which meant one in five people were exposed to the virus.

Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner G Prakash said this prove the city has better

immunity

now. The rate of transmission has come down based on these results and other factors. But we aren’t letting the guard down on any of our verticals. We are continuously going to operate for three more months with the same vigour,” he said.
