One Nation, one election will curtail sovereignty of states: Kanimozhi
THANJAVUR: DMK MP K Kanimozhi on Friday termed the Centre’s 'One nation, one election' proposal as an endeavour to empower the BJP and curtail the sovereignty of states.
Kanimozhi was speaking after inaugurating 'Kalaignar 100 Quiz' in Thanjavur.
She questioned the merits of the 'one nation, one election' proposal. She said, “The proposal doesn’t seem to offer any benefits to the people. Instead, it is intended to give advantages to the BJP by implementing something conducive to their agenda, without contemplating the ramifications for the elected state govts," she alleged.
The Tuticorin Lok Sabha member censured the BJP govt for gradually stripping states of their rights.
She said policies like "one nation, one ration, one language" would be measures towards diminishing the autonomy of the states.
Kanimozhi accused the BJP of attempting to impose its ideologies across the nation while Tamil Nadu chief minister Stalin and the DMK members were staunchly opposing this. "DMK will not accept any actions that undermine the country's democracy or the rights of the states," she said.

Elections are the privilege of the Center. If the Houses do not object, they can go ahead and do elections. The Center's plan will save tonnes of money. Some political party that cannot take a step beyond the state border cannot have any say in this regard. It it were the Congress or the Communist parties we have to listen. Not a single other party is relevant.Read allPost comment
