CHENNAI: A 33-year-old home painter murdered the man his wife was having an affair with in Maduravoyal on Sunday.
The painter, M Sakthivel, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Alapakkam, returned home at 12.30am on Sunday. He had left the house after a fight with his wife Bhuvaneshwari at 8pm on Saturday.
When his wife did not open the door, he broke it open and found his neighbour Satish in bed with his wife.
In a fit of rage, he attacked Satish with a knife and killed him.
Sakthivel’s three children were sleeping in the next room during the murder. He then walked to the Maduravoyal police station and told police that he had murdered his wife’s lover.
Police said Sakthivel married Bhuvaneshwari 10 years ago. She had run away with their neighbour Satish a year ago. Based on Sakthivel’s complaint, police brought her back and told her to stay with her husband.
Since Satish continued to live in the neighbourhood, the two continued their relationship.
Sakthivel was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city on Sunday.
