PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Pamban bridge on April 6, Ram Navami, improving rail connectivity to Rameswaram, a major Hindu pilgrimage site visited by millions.

The bridge strengthens rail access to Rameswaram, benefiting over 25 lakh annual devotees, providing a safer and faster journey to the sacred temple town.

The new bridge replaces the century-old Pamban bridge, shut down in 2022 due to corrosion, ensuring a modern, sturdy, and long-term railway link.

Spanning over 2 km, the bridge is built to endure harsh coastal conditions, support growing rail traffic, and enhance the efficiency of train operations.

The upgraded rail connectivity is expected to attract more pilgrims and tourists, providing an economic boost to local businesses, hotels, and transport services.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone in 2019, and construction began in 2020 to replace the deteriorating bridge, reinforcing infrastructure for future generations.
