Chennai: As part of a special anti-crime and anti-drug operation at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu, Chennai city police deployed drone surveillance and continuous CCTV tracking to monitor suspicious activities and to enhance public safety. The operation was aimed to deter theft, robbery and drug-related offences at the transport hub.
As directed by the commissioner of police, A Amalraj, police teams conducted inspections across the bus terminus complex and its surrounding areas during the night. Officers identified and searched individuals found loitering under suspicious circumstances and questioned them as part of preventive policing measures.
Police trained in drone operations monitored passenger movement and activities across the bus stand and adjoining areas. Simultaneously, officers reviewed CCTV footage from multiple locations to identify suspects loitering suspiciously inside the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) and gather intelligence about them.
“At least 15 suspects were rounded up on a single day in Koyambedu and were let off after giving written undertakings,” said an officer. Koyambedu bus terminus handles more than one lakh passengers daily, and the footfall increases to three to four lakh passengers during weekends and festival seasons.
