CUDDALORE: Neyveli all-women police arrested a retired police head constable on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in a village near Neyveli in
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The arrested man has been identified as T Krishnamoorthy, 61.
When the girl was playing in front of his house, Krishnamoorthy spoke to her in a vulgar manner asking her whether she wanted to marry him or his grandson.
He took her to the terrace of his house and sexually assaulted her.
The minor girl managed to escape, reached home and narrated the incident to her mother. Her mother lodged a complaint with the Neyveli all-woman police.
Police booked him under sections 9 (aggravated sexual assault), 9 (m) (whoever commits sexual assault on a child below 12 years) and 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (
Pocso) Act, 2012, sections 294-b (obscene acts and songs), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (ii) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 (penalty for harassment of woman) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998 and arrested him.
