When he didn’t turn up, a formal summons was sent to him.
The CB-CID is keen on filing a chargesheet in the IPL betting scam. It was kept pending as the Supreme Court ordered a probe into the IPL scam by a three-member committee headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal. “We waited for the committee report to be tabled in the apex court. The report is being given wide coverage in the media across the country as Sampathkumar’s confession before the committee gave a new turn to the IPL scam,” a police officer sad.
For the inquiry, Sampathkumar has been asked to produce documents to substantiate his statements made to the Mudgal committee. He was suspended on February 27 following allegations that he collected money from a punter, Mahendar Ranka, to get him off the hook in the IPL betting case.
In statements to a section of the media, Sampathkumar spoke about CB-CID officers ignoring the IPL spot fixing and probing only betting in the league. The statements were mentioned in the Mudgal committee report submitted before the Supreme Court in February.
The IPS officer was placed under suspension by the state government after he was linked to the case.
