CHENNAI: People and police personnel from any part of
Tamil Nadu can meet director general of police Shankar Jiwal on weekdays and submit petitions related to their grievances.
The new head of the state police has restarted the practice of meeting the public and the cops to handle their grievances.
A statement from his office mentions people and police personnel from across the state can approach the DGP on weekdays, except on holidays, at 11.30am in the visitors’ hall in the DGP office and submit their petitions.
The visitors will be screened and guided to the hall. “I will meet all the petitioners who come on the day. They will be given an acknowledgement receipt. Within two months, they will be given feedback,” said DGP Shankar Jiwal.
A police constable said that it was a welcome move. “But we need more welfare measures. Earlier we used to get leave during marriage anniversaries. It would be helpful if we get it from 7pm a day prior to our anniversary and till 7 am the day after. If we spend time with our family, our stress will be reduced. For bachelors, the holiday should be on the birthday,” said the constable.
