TN govt inks MoU with L&T to implement three projects worth Rs 18,600 crore
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt on Thursday signed an MoU with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the implementation of three projects in the state involving an investment of Rs 18,600 crore, in the presence of chief minister C Joseph Vijay. This is the first industrial MoU signed since Vijay assumed office as CM.
Under the MoU, L&T will undertake the expansion of a data centre in Kancheepuram district at an investment of Rs 15,000 crore; the establishment of an electronics and electronic systems manufacturing facility in Coimbatore for Rs 2,500 crore; and the expansion of its Kattupalli shipbuilding yard in Tiruvallur district with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore.
The three projects are expected to generate employment for around 8,200 people.
The state govt in a release said the MoU is a step towards achieving its goal of transforming Tamil Nadu into a $1.5-trillion economy by 2036.
The govt also said the investments would strengthen Tamil Nadu’s digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence ecosystem while boosting the state’s electronics manufacturing base. The expansion of the Kattupalli shipyard is expected to create world-class infrastructure for the offshore wind energy sector.
State industries minister S Keerthana was present during the signing of the MoU.
