CHENNAI: A three-member gang of robbers sprinkled chloroform on a teenager's face when she was alone at her home in Mannady here on Tuesday night and escaped with 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 2.3 lakh in cash. Police said the victim's father, Hamsa Makkathy, a businessman, and his wife were at a mosque when the incident took place. Fathima, a Class 10 student, didn’t go to the mosque since she had to complete her homework.
At 10pm, when she heard the sound of a drilling machine from outside the main door of the house, Fathima peeped through the window. The trio pushed her and sprinkled chloroform on her. She fell unconscious and the robbers escaped with 15 sovereign of gold jewellery and Rs 2.3 lakh in cash, police said.
The North Beach police were on the lookout for the culprits.
