Woman defends daughter; kills son-in-law in Chennai
Chennai: A 70-year-old woman took the grinding stone her son-in-law was using to attack her daughter and fatally struck him on the head with it, at Gandhi Nagar First Street near Manimangalam in Kancheepuram district on Thursday night.
Police said the deceased, Dinakaran, 45, a daily wage labourer, came home drunk frequently and picked fights with family members.
Late on Thursday night, he had an argument with his wife, Amalrani, in the presence of her mother, Vijayalakshmi. He lifted a grinding stone and threw it at his wife in an attempt to kill her. She had a narrow escape.
Enraged by this, Vijayalakshmi picked up the same stone and struck Dinakaran on the head with it. Dinakaran fell unconscious outside the house, and the women left him there.
Upon information, Manimangalam police rushed to the scene on Friday morning and sent the body to Chromepet govt hospital for postmortem. Vijayalakshmi has been arrested on charges of murder.
