COIMBATORE: The city police on Saturday arrested a 55-year-old woman from Bangalore for duping several people of their money totalling Rs 3.28 crore. Police said Gayathri Suresh, hailing from Bangalore, duped at least 34 victims living in and around the city using fake cheques and financial bonds from reputed private banks.
Her modus operandi was to take money from her victims after showing the fake documents.

City police commissioner C Sylendra Babu said Gayathri was operating in Coimbatore for about a decade and is likely to have conned more victims. Police said she was operating across the state and launched a hunt to nab her accomplice from Chennai.
"She seems to be a serial offender and has been conning people for many years. We are probing the matter since we suspect that she might have amassed at least Rs 50 crore," Sylendra Babu added.
The city police arrested the accused from Gandhipuram on Saturday night based on a complaint filed by S Nagaraj, a Coimbatore based realtor. He has accused Gayathri Suresh of decamping with Rs 12 lakh which was taken from him after showing a fake cheque worth Rs 50 crore. Police said they received 34 complaints against her till date.
"We have seized fake cheques worth Rs 275 crore from the accused. She used to show these cheques to her victims as guarantee for repayment," said M Selvarajan, assistant commisioner, city crime branch. Police said she was operating with the assistance of a Chennai-based woman, Pushpakantham who is absconding. A special team has been sent to Chennai to nab her.
