COIMBATORE: Two people, including an elderly woman, were murdered in two different incidents at Kuppanur near Perur and Chettipalayam near Podanur on Monday. Police arrested a 70-year-old man for murdering his wife and in the other case the identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained.
In the first incident, R Rangammal, 65, of Kuppanur, was murdered by her husband, N Ramasamy, 70, a shepherd.
She was pushed into a water tank by Ramasamy. He surrendered before Perur police and was booked under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and was arrested.
Police said, on Monday morning, Ramasamy had gone for grazing goats and returned around 1 pm. Ramasamy asked his wife for lunch, but she refused to, saying she did not cook anything as there was nothing in the house to cook.
Ramasamy in a fit of rage pushed Rangammal into a 5-feet deep water tank and she drowned. Perur police rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem. Further investigation is on.
In the second incident, the body of a man, aged between 35 and 40 was found along the Coimbatore-Negamam Road near Chettipalayam on Monday morning. Police said, his head was smashed with a stone by someone and the body was dumped on the road side. Chettipalayam police sent the body to CMCH for postmortem and are tracing the identity of the deceased.
