COIMBATORE: Two special teams of Coimbatore city police are camping at Bangalore and Chennai to nab the absconding jeweler N
Ashok Kumar. Police decided to file a petition before Tambaram judicial magistrate court to seek police custody of N Balaji, who was surrendered before the court two days ago and lodged at Puzhal Central Prison.
"The city police will be deployed for bundobust during Vinayaka Chathurthi.
So, we have decided to file a petition on September 10 before the judicial magistrate court to take Balaji under police custody," said a senior police officer.
The jewellery brothers Balaji and Ashok Kumar went missing from the city on June 5 and they allegedly decamped with crore worth gold ornaments from their jewellery shop. They took crores of rupees also. All of their jewellery shops were closed down. Kattoor police registered a case against the duo. But the special team was not able to trace their locations.
Meanwhile, they filed insolvency petition before the first additional sub-ordinate court here on June 8 and claimed that their total liability to be Rs 136.36 crore.
"Our police teams got information from the relatives about the duo. Our special police teams were about to catch them. However, one of the jeweller brothers Balaji surrendered before the court. But Ashok Kumar will be detained with in two days by the police special teams," said the senior police officer.
The department has received as many as 830 complaints against them with liabilities estimated to be Rs150cr.
