Coimbatore corporation councillor flags delay in civic projects, seeks immediate action
By V Ritheka Sree
COIMBATORE: Ward 26 councillor Chithra Velliangiri on Thursday urged the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation to expedite pending civic infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the North Zone Council meeting, the councillor pointed out that several resolutions approved between 2025 and March 2026 remain unimplemented despite administrative sanctions and allocation of funds.
Among the key issues highlighted was the shortage of sanitation workers for sewer maintenance. She urged officials to ensure that desilting and cleaning works are completed within two days of complaints being raised.
She demanded swift implementation of rainwater drainage projects at the Pioneer Mill Road–Vilankurichi Road junction and in 9th Street on the Ellai Thottam Road.
She flagged poor-quality drainage works in RKMLC Colony, stalled drainage projects in Mullai Nagar, incomplete road and drainage works in several localities and pending road repair in Sriram Nagar.
She sought immediate completion of pending tarring work on the Vilankurichi Road and construction of an assembly hall at the Corporation Higher Secondary School on the Pioneer Mill Road.
Chithra said, “A ration shop project worth Rs 23.23 lakh, approved under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, remains incomplete. Also, there is a delay in the execution of the Namakku Naame scheme project at PKD Nagar despite the public contribution having been deposited three months ago.”
She urged officials to review project implementation across all 100 wards and ensure approved works are completed without further delay.
The meeting was chaired by North Zone chairman V Kathirvel.
