Coimbatore youth held for murdering colleague
Coimbatore: A youth who was employed at a hotel in the city was arrested on Saturday for murdering his colleague over a dispute on March 3.
The arrested has been identified as E Shankar alias Shanmugaraj, 25, from Muthaiahpuram in Thoothukudi district. He was working as a waiter in a hotel at Valiyampalayam village near Kovilpalayam in the district.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Shankar had stabbed his colleague and roommate Raman, 35, of Kallukuli, to death over a monetary dispute. "Shankar said Raman often stole his money, leading to fights between the two. On March 3, during a similar dispute, Shankar murdered Raman in a fit of rage and had been on the run since then.
Kovilpalayam police traced Shankar's whereabouts on Saturday, subsequently leading to his arrest. Police said Shankar was already facing two attempted murder cases, two ganja cases, and an assault case in Muthaiyapuram police station.
He was remanded in judicial custody and later lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.
