Four PMK cadres were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Thursday on charges of stone pelting a government bus and killing a passenger during the protest to condemn the arrest of party founder Dr S Ramadoss.

SALEM: Four PMK cadres were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Thursday on charges of stone pelting a government bus and killing a passenger during the protest to condemn the arrest of party founder Dr S Ramadoss.
A Arivoli (42) from Vendanur near Edaipadi, M Venkateshwaran (31), S Murugesan (39) and P Sakthivel (23) from Puthupalayam village near Vazhapadi in Salem district were detained under the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damages and Loss) Act, and section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and lodged at the Salem Central Prison, district superintendent of police R Sakthivel said.

According to police sources, the accused confessed to pelting stones on the government buses. "Venkateshwaran, Murugesan and Sakthivel pelted stones on a bus near Muthunaickenpatty by-pass near Vazhapadi. A passenger named N Selvam, a farmer from Nochipatty near Sathiyamangalam, succumbed to head injuries after stones had hit his head," police sources said.
"District collector K Maharabushanam issued the detention order on Thursday," police officials added.
