COIMBATORE: A farmer and his two sons were arrested on Thursday by the district crime branch (DCB) police for cheating a businessman of Rs 43.12 lakh. The accused had given a power of attorney to the businessman for 3.75-acre at Pooluvapatti by receiving the money from him.
The arrested were identified as SP Ramasamy, 63, and his sons R Sathishkumar, 33, and R Jagadeeshkumar, 29, all residents of Pooluvapatti near Alandurai.
They were booked under sections 406, 420, 294 (b) and 506 (i) of the Indian Penal Code and lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Police said N Narasimhan, 66, of GV Residency at Sowripalayam, approached Ramasamy and sons to buy 3.75-acre at Pooluvapatti. The trio sold the land for Rs 43.12 lakh to Narasimhan, who had paid in three instalments through three cheques. The trio had withdrawn money from their bank accounts in November 2017. They had given power of attorney in the name of Narasimhan and it was registered on November 27, 2017. Meanwhile, Narasimhan entered into an agreement with a private firm to sell the land and received Rs 1 lakh as advance. He came to know that Ramasamy and his sons cancelled the power of attorney on November 20, 2018.
When Narasimhan approached the trio, they threatened him with dire consequences. He demanded the land or the money. But Ramasamy and his sons refused.
