Missing man found murdered in abandoned well
Tirupur: Unidentified people a few days ago beat a 27-year-old garment factory worker to death in a drunken quarrel and dumped his body into an abandoned well. The 15 Velampalayam police said the crime came to light on Thursday, when local residents found a body floating in a private well in Nerungaradu area.A police officer identified the victim as M Maheswaran, of Theni district. "After the demise of his father, Maheswaran has been living with his mother Ramayi on Mahaliyamman Kovil Street at Aathupalayam. He was employed at a local garment unit."According to the officer, Ramayi left for her native village in Theni on May 17 to attend a temple festival, leaving Maheswaran alone at home."On May 18, Maheswaran went to a Tasmac outlet at Aathupalayam with two unidentified men. An argument broke out between them while they were consuming liquor, and the two assaulted him fatally. To conceal the murder, the duo tied heavy stones to his body, fastened a rope around his neck and dumped the body in an abandoned private well in Nerungaradu area, before fleeing," the officer said.On Thursday, local residents spotted the body floating in the well and informed the 15 Velampalayam police, who recovered the body and confirmed it was a murder case. The body was sent to Tirupur Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination. Police have registered a murder case and formed two special teams to trace and arrest the murderers.
