She took a house on rent at Annalakshmi Nagar at Kangeyampalayam a few months ago. Her friend R Rajesh Kannan, 42, of Keeripatti near Poliyampatti in Madurai district smuggled the contraband from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in a car and stored them in the rental house at Kangeyampalayam. She used to segregate the ganja leaves and supplied them to the local ganja peddlers.
Sulur police inspector R Mathaiyan, sub-inspector Rajendra Prasath and team got a tip off and raided the place on Thursday morning. The police found 50 kg of ganja in the house and arrested Jayapandiyammal. She was brought to the Sulur police station for further interrogation.
“Rajesh Kannan bought one kg of ganja for Rs 12,000 in Andhra Pradesh and sold the contraband to the local ganja peddlers for Rs 50,000. He went absconding and a team has been formed to nab him,” said inspector Mathaiyan.
“We have seized 226 kg of ganja from April 1 to May 5, 2022 and arrested 150 ganja peddlers. Our personnel have been working to curb the movements of the contraband items. We have requested the people to contact the police to inform the details of ganja peddlers and the identity of the people will be kept in secret,” said V Badri Narayanan, superintendent of police, Coimbatore district.
