"At present, both individuals are in home isolation and recovering," Dr Chaudhary said.

The district's health authorities have instructed all government hospitals to test individuals suspected of having COVID-19.

The CMO stated that data concerning potential cases must be submitted to the Unified Disease Surveillance Platform (UDSP).
"Samples collected from suspected cases will be sent to the BHU lab for testing," he added.

The hospital immediately placed him in the isolation ward and sent his samples to a government laboratory for confirmation. Unfortunately, the patient died before the official test report could be received, making it a suspected Covid-19 death.

Covid-19: Karnataka records 36 positive cases

Karnataka recorded a total of 36 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the state's active cases count to 100. According to a bulletin issued by the health department, while the positivity rate in the last 24 hours is 9.44 per cent, total tests done in Karnataka in the last 24 hours is 381. This included 361 RTPCR tests.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said doctors and health workers have been instructed to wear masks.

He also said there is no reason for the public to panic, as the government has taken all necessary precautionary measures.

The minister and higher officials of the medical education department took stock of the medicines, bed, and oxygen availability in an online meeting with directors, medical superintendents, and special officers on Tuesday. This was in the wake of Covid cases re-emerging in what they call a cyclical but not threatening trend.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting on Tuesday, Minister of Medical Education, Sharan Prakash Patil, said, "All hospitals are asked to assess how many oxygenated beds and ventilators are available and to place a demand for what they need." He added that instructions were given to maintain the stock of required drugs - antipyretics (medicine that reduces fever), antitussives (cough suppressants), steroids, or anticoagulants. All directors were told to send their demands for hospital facilities by the end of the day, Patil said.

He added that the health department was checking the availability of Remdesivir (intravenous antiviral medication for COVID). "The health dept is also providing RTPCR kits through NHM." While masks are not mandatory in public places, Patil said doctors and officials visiting hospitals are expected to mask up.
So far, he said, all cases are mild and have recovered. Just one patient is hospitalised. "People need not panic," the minister said. Officials said the cases were seen increasingly in newborns. The department maintained that the spike in cases is cyclical in nature. Officials told TOI recovery is much faster and takes within a week.

Speaking to ANI, Patil said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had convened a meeting with the Health and Medical Education Departments to assess the preparedness of hospitals.

"Yesterday, the Chief Minister conducted a meeting with the Health Department and Medical Education Department to see the preparedness of the hospitals," said Dr Patil.

He added that advisories have already been issued by the Health Department, especially for vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, pregnant women, and those with comorbidities.

"The Health Department has already issued an advisory that pregnant women, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities need to wear masks when they go to crowded places," he said.

Covid now like a seasonal virus; no emergency at present: Delhi CM Gupta

With the national capital crossing the 100 mark in active COVID-19 cases, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday assured that the situation is under control and compared the virus to a seasonal flu. "Covid is not an emergency or alarming situation," Gupta told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

Calling it akin to a viral infection now, the chief minister said, "Just like how cold and cough happen, COVID-19 is also like a seasonal virus."

Further calling on people to not fear or worry, Gupta said, "Our hospitals are alert and the situation is under control."

According to official data, the national capital has reported 104 active Covid cases, so far.

Last week, the Delhi government issued an advisory on COVID-19, calling on hospitals to prepare for the availability of beds, oxygen, medicines and vaccines.

Gujarat reports 83 active Covid cases, ranking 4th in India; XFG, LF.7 variants found

Dr Rommel Tickoo, director of internal medicine at Max Saket said there is no cause for panic as most patients with the infection have mild symptoms, just like common flu. “We don’t advise Covid tests for all with fever, cough and cold. But, due to the panic and anxiety caused by a surge in cases, some patients have come to us with positive Covid tests. Treatment involves symptomatic management and rest. In case of Covid or Covid-like symptoms, we also advise keeping away from others, so the infection doesn't spread further,” Dr Tickoo said.

Kerala has most number of active Covid cases in India

5th patient with Covid dies in Mumbai Metropolitan Region in 8 days

The Covid test for a 47-year-old Kalyan resident came back positive a day after her death, making her the fifth person with the coronavirus to die within an eight-day period in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The woman was taking out-patient treatment for typhoid for 10 days but was rushed to a private hospital on Friday morning when her health deteriorated significantly. She died in the hospital the same evening—before her Covid-19 test results were available.KDMC health officer, Dr Deepa Shukla, said the woman had a fever for the last 10 days and had typhoid.
