Pithoragarh: Two persons, Trilok Singh (40) and Sankar Singh (40), who were accompanying a patient to Haldwani, died after the ambulance they were in fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge at Bautari of Champawat district on Monday night. The patient, Kamlesh Thapa, 30, and driver Chanahal Kumar, 45, were injured.
Villagers alerted Lohaghat Police about the accident, said Manish Khatri, SHO Lohaghat.
The injured persons were sent to Pithoragarh by emergency service 108. Kumar is under treatment at a Pithoragarh hospital and Thapa has been referred to a higher centre.
Thapa, a resident of village Ban Aagar of Pithoragarh Tehsil, was admitted to Pithoragarh District Hospital for stomach pain on Sunday. He was referred to a higher centre for better treatment. On Monday at 9 pm, his relatives had hired a private ambulance to take him to Haldwani.
