DEHRADUN: A 22-year-old law student lost his life after a speeding bus hit his motorcycle on Thursday morning in Prem Nagar area, prompting strong protests from his peers who blocked road demanding the culprit be caught.
Police resorted to light lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The accused bus driver has been arrested.
Giving details, cops said at 9am, Gaurav Rana, a resident of Mothrowala area, and his friend were on their way to the university on a motorcycle.

A short distance before the university, a speeding bus hit the bike from behind, flinging the riders on the road. Rana was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival while his friend has been hospitalized.
Following the mishap, students and locals came out in protest and blocked traffic movement on the main road of Prem Nagar. Despite repeated requests from police, the protestors refused to relent following which a mild lathi charge was carried out to disperse the protestors.
Police have arrested the driver of the bus. DIG Puskpak Jyoti said that action has been taken in the matter. “Traffic movement was restored soon after the accident,” he added.
