Dehradun: A day after a couple studying MCA at a private university in Dehradun's Clement Town area were admitted to hospital with serious injuries, the accused was arrested on Sunday on a complaint lodged by the woman's father. Officials said Uday Singh, 21, had been in a relationship with the woman since Sept last year.
"A case was registered against Singh on a complaint from the woman's father, who alleged that he attacked with the intention to kill her. During the investigation, it was found that Singh was enraged after discovering that she was speaking to another man. On Saturday morning, Singh, who lived in rented accommodation in the area with three others, went to meet the woman and confronted her over the issue," said Dehradun SP (City) Pramod Kumar on Sunday.
He added that a heated argument broke out between them during the meeting.
"All of a sudden, he took out a kitchen knife and attacked her, causing serious injuries. During the altercation, Singh too sustained injuries before police rushed both of them to hospital for treatment," Kumar said. Police said both are now out of danger.
"While the woman is still undergoing treatment, Singh was discharged from hospital. He was then arrested and the knife used in the attack was recovered," Kumar added. Singh was produced before a local court on Sunday afternoon and was sent to jail.
