Haridwar: A clerk posted at a school run by the 40th battalion of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) of Haridwar, has been booked for siphoning off funds worth Rs. 24 lakh. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
According to police, accused Virendra Sharma did not deposit the money, which was collected from students as tuition fees, in the school’s account.
He also remained absent for the last couple of months without informing his senior officials.
According to Haridwar police, the misappropriation came to light during an audit conducted by the school administration. The committee found financial irregularities worth Rs. 24 lakh during 2008-2018, and Sharma was found responsible by the inquiry committee.
SHO Ranipur police station Sadhana Tyagi said, “A case has been registered against Virendra Sharma under section 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of the Indian Penal Code. We have asked the school management’s cooperation. Role of other persons will be investigated too.”
