Dehradun: Strong tremors were felt in Dehradun and other parts of Uttarakhand on Sunday afternoon after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan. Panic gripped residents as they rushed out of their houses searching for open spaces.

The Meteorological Centre in Dehradun confirmed that tremors were felt in the state. “It was a moderate intensity earthquake with the epicentre at Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan,” said Bikram Singh, director of Meteorological Centre.
Most people in the city chose to stay out in the open for sometime following the tremors. “I was watching a movie at home when I saw the table shaking. I immediately asked my family members to rush outside. It was scary,” said Vidit Kumar, a college student.
