NEW DELHI: Two auto lifters were arrested on south Delhi's Press Enclave Road on Saturday morning.
The accused, who had fled from Uttar Pradesh in a car, were nabbed after a team from the crime branch of Gurgaon police chased them for over an hour. During the chase, the cops even fired at them in a crowded area, because of which locals thought that a gang war was going on.

The incident was reported around 10am when the cops were chasing a Hyundai Accent and stopped it near the Select Citywalk mall. The driver then reversed the car and tried to run over the cops. However, he rammed an auto on the roadside and managed to flee.
The cops again chased them and stopped the car near the city hospital. A cop then approached the driver and asked him to surrender, but the occupants hurled abuses at him and drove away. The cops then fired at the tyres of the car. The driver lost control of the vehicle and went over a footpath, after which the vehicle stopped a few metres ahead. Police said the men tried to run but were nabbed by a Delhi Police constable patrolling the area.
The local police too rushed to the spot. Later, the Gurgaon cops revealed their identities. Police officers said the two accused have been identified as Hitesh and Abhijeet.
A case of attempt to murder under Section 307 IPC (preventing a public servant from conducting his duty and criminal conspiracy) has been registered against them.
