NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Delhi's Paharganj area after an argument with his mother, Delhi police said on Monday.
The Paharganj police station received an emergency call at 11 pm on Sunday regarding a deceased individual, later identified as Jasmit (also known as Jashn), who resided at Shora Kothi in Paharganj.
According to police reports, Jasmit was known for his alcohol dependency and frequent confrontations with his parents.
On February 22, around 7 pm, whilst under the influence of alcohol, he reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his mother and attempted to physically harm her.
Subsequently, he departed from the residence. His parents, anticipating potential further confrontations upon his return, secured the house and sought refuge at their daughter's home in Ghaziabad.
The family received information from a neighbour about an attempted break-in at their house.
They dispatched a relative named Tejinder with the house key to investigate the situation.
According to the official police report, at approximately 10 pm on February 23, Tejinder observed the main lock was undamaged but discovered that Jasmit had gained entry by forcing the balcony latch.
Upon entering, Tejinder found Jasmit hanging inside the premises.
