27 police medal winners include top CBI officers
NEW DELHI: Officers leading CBI probes in high-profile cases like the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder, National Rural Health Mission scam and Coalgate are among winners of 27 police medals announced on the occasion of Republic Day. Joint director, STF, Nina Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer from Rajasthan cadre, who is probing the NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh as well as illegal BSNL connections given out during the tenure of former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, has been given the President’s police medal for distinguished service. Another winner of this medal is joint director R S Bhatti, who is heading the special crime unit and is behind new initiatives like setting up of special unit in CBI to probe sports fraud cases. He is also heading the probe in the Amit Jethwa murder case in which BJP MP Deenu Solanki is under investigation. DIG Nilabh Kishore, posted in Dehradun, who led the probe in the sensational Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case and got the accused convicted in the special CBI court, has been given the police medal for meritorious service this year. DIG Amit Kumar, who is in the core team investigating the probe into the coal block allocation scam, is another winner.
DIG Santosh Rastogi, who is the present in-charge of 2G cases, has been given the police medal for meritorious service. Tosh Kumar, senior private secretary of the CBI director, and R K Gupta, office superintendent at the agency headquarters, are employees from the police administration who have been given the President’s police medal for meritorious service. Other recipients of President’s police medal for distinguished service include joint director Anil Palta, additional superintendent of police S B Sankar, DSP Balbir Jain, ASI Purandar Routray and head constable Mohammad Rashid. Recipients of police medal for meritorious service also include senior superintendent of police D S Shukla, deputy superintendent of police Kandasamy Subbian, inspectors Ramaswamy Parthasarathy, Boddeda Shankar Rao, Madho Singh Phartyal, Vijay Kumar, Surinder Singh Bhullar, sub-inspector Gulshan Kumar, assistant sub-inspectors Krishan Kumar, Prakash Saya Kajrokar, head constables Koshy Mamachen, Narinder Singh Jaswal, Anand Singh Rawat, and constables Vinod Kumar and Ramji Lal Jat.
