NEW DELHI: Angered over the non-payment of a balance amount of Rs 4,000, three brothers allegedly kidnapped the four-year-old son of a north Delhi businessman in the Subzi Mandi area on Saturday. The child was rescued within hours and the accused carpenters arrested.
The child was rescued safely and the accused, identified as Sarfraj Ali (26), Sartaz Ali (23) and Gul Mohammad (30), had taken good care of him to ensure that he was not traumatized, said police officials.
According to the police, Rajbir was reported missing around 1.30pm on Saturday. "Rajbir's father, Gaurav Bali, reported to the police that he was on his way to Moti Bagh for business work when his father had called to say that Rajbir was missing from house. Bali told us that he rushed back home and made an enquiry in the locality about Rajbir, but no clue was found. The matter was reported to the Subzi Mandi police station and a case was registered," said deputy commissioner of police (north) I B Rani.
The police got to know that a carpenter, Sarfraj, who used to work in Bali's house, had a dispute with him over payment a few days ago. The fact that Sarfraj's whereabouts were unclear and his mobile phone was found switched off made the cops suspicious and raids were conducted to trace him.
"Under pressure, Sarfraj tried to mislead the police. He contacted Bali and told him that his cellphone was switched off due to low battery and he is coming to Bali's house. Sarfraj was apprehended as soon as he reached Bali's house. On interrogation, he disclosed that Bali was not ready to settle his remaining payment of Rs 4,000. On this, he had taken away Rajbir and handed the child over to his brothers Sartaz and Gul Mohammad at the bus stand of Khajoori Khas," said DCP Rani.
Sarfraj was made to call his brothers to Ghaziabad on the pretext of planning to proceed to their village Kangar Baseda in JP Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. The two were arrested around 8pm near Gagan Cinema in Nand Nagari and the child was rescued from them. The accused, who now live at a rented house in Khajoori Khas, are unmarried.
Rajbir's father is a resident of Malka Ganj and runs a shop of auto parts at Kashmere Gate in north Delhi.
