NEW DELHI: With the arrest of two women,
Delhi Police's Special Cell claimed to have busted a syndicate engaged in interstate arms trafficking, officials said on Tuesday. Police also recovered ten high-quality pistols from the possession of suspects Chanchal (32) and Vikansha (23), both residents of Bulandshahr in UP. The arrests were made by the team led by inspector Shiv Kumar.
"The seized firearms, which were intended to be supplied to gangsters operating around Delhi-NCR, were brought from Khargone, Madhya Pradesh," said a police official.
After receiving a tip-off that the women will deliver an arms' consignment at the MB Road-Surajkund Road intersection, a trap was laid on October 1, said an officer, adding that "after spotting the duo carrying bags, a police team nabbed them and recovered five pistols bearing .32 bore bullets and five single-shot pistols of .315 bore".
During interrogation, the duo divulged that acting at the behest of a Mathura-resident, Sonu Chaudhary, they procured these weapons from an arms supplier in Khargone. "Their compensation for the safe delivery of the consignment was Rs10,000 each. It also came to light that they have been in these illegal activities for over two years now and have supplied more than 200 weapons to criminals so far," an officer said.
Chanchal also disclosed that her sister Soni was apprehended earlier under the NDPS Act. Chaudhary, the mastermind behind these illegal dealings, was identified as the maternal uncle of Vikansha and had connections with Soni. This familial criminal nexus ultimately led to their involvement in illicit activities.
"Further investigation into the case is underway to find linkages of the syndicate and to nab Chaudhary who has been found involved in many criminal cases, including murder and the NDPS Act," a police officer added.
