Delhiites will soon be able to use subways in the New Delhi area which will be decorated with paintings, and the first of these is to be called Yoga Subway. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in partnership with Delhi Street Art will be putting up a series of 24 artworks in a pedestrian subway in the New Delhi area. These paintings will be displayed in an exhibition on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21, and will be then put up in a subway which will be rechristened as 'Yoga Subway'.
NDMC Secretary Chanchal Yadav told us, "We are planning to have these public art installations in subways so that they look aesthetic and people start using them.
And the first step in this direction will be the Yoga Subway. Also, we don’t want to restrict the message of International Yoga Day to just one day. Next, we are planning to get some paintings done for another subway, which will depict how New Delhi came into existence, how its buildings were built and various stages of their construction."
