NEW DELHI: A 64-year-old man lost Rs 50,000 while he was waiting in a queue outside a bank to deposit his money in outer Delhi's Narela on Saturday morning.
The government had announced that only senior citizens will be allowed to deposit and withdraw cash from banks and ATMs on Saturday.
Premchand Soni was awaiting his turn outside Vijaya Bank in Bhorgarh to deposit Rs 1 lakh.
He was carrying two packets containing Rs 50,000 each in his trousers' pockets. When he reached the counter, he found that one of the packets were missing, the police said.
Soni checked his pockets and realised that he had been pick-pocketed. He called up the police and informed them about the theft.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Narela police station. "We are scanning CCTV footage of the area and trying the establish the identity of the accused," a police officer said.
