Four held for credit card fraud in Air India staff’s name
NEW DELHI: The Economic Offences Wing of the crime branch has busted a gang of cheats and arrested four men. They had got as many as 57 credit cards fraudulently issued in the name of Air India employees and duped Citibank of over Rs 50 lakh, police said on Thursday. Two of the accused are sons of Air India employees, added cops.
The arrested have been identified as Mayank Jain (28), Roshan Dass (27), Kuldeep Srivastava (23) and Ashok Ganwani (35).
Joint commissioner (EOW), Sandeep Goyal, said that Mayank Jain and Roshan Dass had worked in an insurance company and were unable to meet their rising expenses due to which they thought of committing this fraud.
“The duo lived in AI Colony in Vasant Vihar and had easy access to AI ID cards and salary slips. They filled up forms by attaching fake identities on a similar form which they created with the help of Adobe Photoshop software on Jain’s laptop. The trio then pasted photographs of people who applied for the policy and deposited with the bank. Since they lived in and were well-acquainted with the AI Colony, they gave addresses of locked houses in it and got the cards issued,” Goel said.
As reported by TOI in March, transaction through Ganwani's shop allegedly has been of almost Rs 18 lakh. Ganwani allegedly used to swipe cards on the condition for commission. Some other cards swiping points have been identified and raids are still being conducted, Goel said.
Ganwani was interrogated at length who led the cops to Mayank Jain and subsequently the others involved.
