Delhi gym murder: Jailed gangster in custody, notices to 2 others
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has served notice to two individuals named Kunal Chhabra and Anup Juneja in connection with their investigation into the sensational killing of businessman Nadir Shah. The cops have also taken custody of gangster Hashim Baba from jail and are interrogating him on remand. Hashim, cops said, ordered the hit on Shah from Mandoli Jail.
While the main shooters, Madhur and Raju, are still at large, police have launched a manhunt for another character named Bobby, aka Kabutar, a key henchman of Hashim who provided logistics for the killing. Shah was gunned down in Greater Kailash-I on Sept 12.
Regarding Chhabra, cops said that he was wanted in multiple cases registered by Delhi Police's Special Cell and had been on the run. The cell had started probing one of the cases involving Chhabra on the inputs received by FBI. "This network was running an illegal call centre at Rajouri Garden and was involved in large-scale cyber cheating with US citizens on the pretext of tech support for a financial services firm, which offers banking services, commercial banking, investment and wealth management related services, etc.," a senior officer said.
Police had busted the call centre in Feb. During the investigation, it was found that the call operators received inbound calls on the toll-free numbers provided by the call vendors. "The fraudsters were engaged in using illegal techniques, such as VOIP calling and bypassing legal international long distance gateways, thereby causing wrongful loss to the govt exchequer and wrongful gain to themselves," the officer added.
"During the investigation, the name of Kunal Chhabra came on record as the owner of the said illegal call centre. Several notices u/s 41 CrPC were served upon at the residence of the accused with the directions to join the investigation, but he deliberately avoided his presence before the investigation agency," the senior police officer said. Non-bailable warrants against the accused were subsequently obtained.
Shortly after, Chhabra had fled to Dubai after the noose tightened around him in Delhi. Now, he is learnt to be shuttling between Indonesia and Portugal.
Chhabra had been on the radar of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and handed over his illegal call centre to Shah to operate. Shah, who had a rivalry with Juneja, flaunted his connections and took on Bishnoi and his syndicate, causing roadblocks in their operations. Bishnoi then decided to get him bumped off through their north-east Delhi-based associate Hashim Baba, said a senior officer.
