Karol Bagh Shootout Accused Arrested After Exchange of Fire With Police in Kamla Market
New Delhi: Two men wanted in a shootout and firing incident at Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh were arrested on Saturday in the Kamla Market area.
The accused, identified as Sahil (28) and Avinash (24), both residents of Karol Bagh, were associated with the wanted criminal Vikas alias Kalia. The case in which they were wanted reportedly dated to April 30, when they had attacked rival criminal Rohit alias Mota.
Police had received a tip-off about the whereabouts of Sahil and Avinash around 8.50 pm, after which raids were conducted in Kamla Market. The accused were expected to come from the Gandhi Market roundabout towards the Civic Center around 10 pm on a brown scooter, allegedly with the intention of eliminating Rohit.
Once identified around 10.20 pm, police intercepted their vehicle. The accused allegedly opened fire at the cops, firing four rounds, police said. “A bullet fired by the accused struck the proof jacket worn by inspector Rohit Kumar on the front side,” said DCP (central) Rohit Rajbir Singh.
“During a brief exchange of fire, police shot at the legs of the accused and injured them before apprehending,” added DCP Singh. Sahil was shot on his right leg, while Avinash was shot on his left leg.
During the proceedings, one pistol, one country-made katta, three live cartridges, ten empty cartridge cases, and the scooter used in the incident were seized. The scooter was found to be a stolen vehicle from Malviya Nagar.
A separate case has been registered at the Kamla Market police station under sections of the BNS and Arms Act.
Vikas had backed Sahil and Avinash in the firing incident, police said. Sahil was found to have three previous involvements, including robbery, at the Anand Parbat and Sarai Rohilla police stations. Avinash was also involved in a robbery case at the Sarai Rohilla police station and both have previously served jail time.
