NEW DELHI: There was mayhem at Block-1 in Jahangirpuri on Saturday night after rival groups clashed and went on a stabbing spree. The immediate trigger was alewd comment passed at a family member by one of the goons.Two persons were killed and three injured in the violence. The victims, which included a woman, were of the same family.Accused Anil Sharma, who has several criminal cases against him, and three others have been arrested.
Police said the assailants were drunk when the brawl took place.
The deceased have been identified as Narendra, 34, and Kuldeep , 22. The injured were Jainath Vajpayee, 45, Narendra’s wife Vineeta , 40, and their relative, Pappu Mishra, 30.Though there are several versions of the incident, police say both parties were not on good terms and a lewd comment by one of the accused sparked off the violence . The victims’ family alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 50,000 as extortion money for allowing them to run their business and build a house in the area.Witnesses said when Jainath was walking past the accused’s house, one of them made a disparaging remark about his daughter which angered Jainath. Sparks flew and the argument turned ugly with persons from both sides stepping in. Anil whipped out a knife and started to stab the members of the rival group, said an eyewitness.“We called the police, who helped us take the victims to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital. Narendra and Kuldeep were declared brought dead, while others were admitted for treatment. Jainath is critical with stab wounds in his ribs,” said a relative.Additional deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Romil Baaniya said, “ Both the deceased and injured have suffered multiple stab injuries. We have arrested Anil and questioning him”“Vineeta was discharged after sustaining injuries in the back and thighs. Pappu and Jainath were later taken to the Loknayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where they are recuperating,” said a source.The accused fled in their Indica after the crime. Police sources said Anil has 10 criminal cases against him and has been absconding since 2009. Accused Sunil has five cases against him.
