Zepto delivery boy killed after speeding car rams scooter in Delhi’s Subhash Nagar; driver held
NEW DELHI:A 25-year-old delivery executive working with an online grocery delivery platform died after being hit by a car in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Saturday afternoon. Police have taken the driver into custody, who is employed as a contractor with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
According to police, a PCR call was received at around 3.26 pm reporting an accident near the red light close to Subhash Nagar Metro Station on Najafgarh Road, in the direction of Rajouri Garden. When police reached the spot, both the car and the electric scooter involved in the collision were found there.
The victim, identified as Hem Shakar, had already been shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital by the time officers arrived. Doctors declared him brought dead.
Deputy commissioner of police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar said Shakar was a resident of Raghubir Nagar and worked as a delivery executive for Zepto. He was riding an electric scooter at the time of the incident.
He further said that eyewitnesses at the scene reported that a Verna car hit the e-scooter from behind, causing the rider to fall and sustain critical injuries. The impact of the collision proved fatal.
The accused driver, Mohit Kumar (27), a resident of Najafgarh, was immediately taken into custody. Police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the car struck the scooter from the rear, though further inquiry is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
An FIR has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police said they are recording statements from eyewitnesses and examining available evidence, including CCTV footage from the surrounding area, to establish the sequence of events.
