NEW DELHI: The American woman, who was allegedly raped by Bollywood filmmaker Mahmood Farooqui, showed a trial court the emails she exchanged with Farooqui in which he apparently "admitted" about the crime. Deposing as a prosecution witness in an in-camera proceeding on Tuesday, the 30-year-old woman said that Farooqui had sent her mails in which he apologized about the alleged
rape incident.
The woman told additional sessions judge Sanjiv Jain that she had also sent an email narrating her ordeal to her academic advisor and Farooqui's wife Anusha Rizvi, who had expressed her support in response. Sources said that the woman, an American research scholar, said she and Farooqui exchanged nine mails after the incident.
Meanwhile, Forensic Science Laboratory also submitted its report in the court regarding retrieval of data from woman's laptop and mobile phone, sources said. The complainant's statement remained inconclusive and would continue on September 24 when she is also likely to be cross-examined by the defence counsel.
On September 9, the court commenced trial in the case after framing charges of rape under section 376 (rape) of IPC against Farooqui. While framing charges against Farooqui, the court had dropped the charge under section 201 (destruction of evidence) of IPC against him, saying there was no evidence to book him for this offence.
On June 29, police filed the chargesheet against Farooqui alleging he had raped the 30-year-old research scholar from Columbia University at his Sukhdev Vihar house in south Delhi on March 28 this year.
Farooqui has been in judicial custody since his arrest on June 20 and his bail plea is pending before the court.
