New Delhi: The victims would be found in deserted fields in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar with their throats slit just once. None of their belongings would be missing.
On October 22, a local discovered the body of a young man, Kanhaiya, on a spot near the highway. Police were surprised seeing as none of his belongings were missing. It was found that the deceased was a habitual drinker, and visited the area often.
Two days later, the body of another man, Hari Ram, was found.
"A team under inspector, special staff, Surinder Singh Rathi and SHO Sharad Chander was formed to trace the murderer," said Pushpender Kumar, DCP West.
A search was launched and a young man, Pradeep (25), was detained from a JJ colony in Nihal Vihar. At his instance, police raided the home of a teenager in the same colony and rounded him up. The 17-year-old broke down during interrogation and confessed to the crimes.
He said he had been convinced by a godman to commit the murders for a ritual that would help him gain spiritual powers and a religious following. He roped in Pradeep and committed the first murder with his help. Soon, Pradeep started telling people about the minor's plans. Police said the teenager planned to kill at least 10 people to fulfil his objective. The teen has been staying in the Nihal Vihar colony for the past two years with his mother since her divorce. He had joined a school but dropped out after a few days. His father, who owns a farmland in Bharatpur, tried to admit him to a village school but he ran away. TNN
