NEW DELHI: Three Delhi policemen were allegedly found drinking with a murder accused inside a shop owned by him. On May 30, a 23-year-old property dealer, Bhagat Raj, was shot by his friend. However, on Tuesday night, one of Bhagats relatives saw that the shop, Rohit Associates, was lit from inside and immediately informed Bhagats brother, Narendra.
"We reached the spot and went inside the shop on the first floor of the building and saw Rohit and three cops drinking together. We took their pictures and then confronted them. On seeing us, they started running away. But one of the cops was so drunk that he passed out in the room itself and we took his pictures. I cant imagine how Rohit managed to get out of the lock-up after his arrest," said Narendra.
He added that the photographs were taken to the Rohini police station on Wednesday morning. "The police did not take any cognizance of the matter even after we repeatedly requested them to take action. They have been supporting Rohit ever since the incident occurred and have been very laidback in their investigations. They havent yet recovered the weapon used and havent taken any statements either," Narendra alleged.
He added that Rohit had connections in the police force and "he has probably bribed them well".
After the police refused to take action against the cops, the family and friends of Bhagat blocked the road from Poot Kalan, a village in Haryana, to Rohini and jammed the traffic on the route for hours. Finally, in the late afternoon, DCP (outer) Sagarpreet Hooda reached the spot and spoke to the aggrieved family members.
When contacted, Hooda said that the constable who was photographed, identified as Varun Kumar had been suspended. "We will ensure that there is no laxity in investigations in this case. Based on the photographs, the constable has been suspended and we will investigate the involvement of the other two policemen in the pictures as well," he said.
