ERODE: A 12-year-old brain dead boy in Erode district gave a new lease of life to five patients after his parents consented to donating his organs.
P Mouleesh, son of Prabhu of Karungalpalayam in Erode, who was suffering from seizures, had received treatment in various hospitals before he was brought to a private multi-speciality hospital here on March 3.
Mouleesh was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital here. His Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) was recorded as 3/15. "Neurology and neurosurgery specialists examined him and confirmed that he suffered brain death on March 6 morning," said Dr C Senthilvel, managing director of Senthil Multi Speciality Hospital.
The boy’s condition was explained to his parents. They agreed to donate his organs. A team of doctors harvested the liver, kidneys and skin on Friday as per the guidelines of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu.
The liver, one kidney and skin were allocated to a private hospital in Coimbatore for transplantation while the other kidney was allotted to a private hospital in Erode.
