FARIDABAD: A drive conducted by the traffic police on Friday found that more than 450 autorickshaws with fake registration numbers were plying in Faridabad. Around 160 autos were impounded and a fine of more than Rs 20 lakh was imposed on the violators,
Faridabad traffic police said.
According to RTO records, there are around 40,000 registered autos in Faridabad.
Police have started indexing all the autos plying within the city by issuing a serial number.
Auto unions have been asked to submit details of each auto rickshaw, owner, driver and their phone number along with their photo.
Each owner is required to display the police-issued serial number on the back of the auto.
According to Faridabad DCP (traffic) Amit Yashwardhan, traffic police are preparing an index of all auto rickshaws with their details so that the details are available on short-notice as needed. During the drive on Friday they found a large number of autos with fake registration numbers, he said.
